The Indira Gandhi National Open University has introduced a new master’s degree program in Jyotish with the course code MAJY. The program is launched at the PG level and the main objective of the same is to impart knowledge under the shadow of Indian Oriental Science. The course provides appropriate education in various topics of Jyotish education like time knowledge, solar eclipse, lunar eclipse, movement of spatial objects and their effects on human life, practical life of humans along with the revolvings of planets in space according to the beliefs of Indian tradition. 

The primary aim of this course is to provide detailed and authentic education on various facts related to Jyotish education. Candidates who are studying this program will get enough education in astrology called Vedanga. Apart from these things, various other topics will be included in this course like astrological mathematics, theory and beliefs of ancient India and its related tradition. The complete study materials will be provided to the students through which the candidates will know better about the basic concepts of Astrology. They will get to know the traditions and the social aspects of this course. It will completely contemplate the learning of Jyotish education.

Master of Arts in Jyotish is a two-year degree course. Anyone who has passed the bachelor’s degree examination from a recognized board will be able to take admitted to this programme. The mode of instruction is the Hindi language. Apart from subjective theory and other aspects of the course, it helps the candidate to motivate themselves to learn what Astrology is and what are its aspects. It will help them to get good job opportunities in the future. 

Dr Sandeep Gupta; the regional director of the Jammu Regional centre of IGNOU said that anyone can join this course who is interested in Astrology irrespective of age and religion as there is no age bar for the admission procedure of this programme.
